this isn't the latest news...
i was just clearing my 2,108 archived emails in my yahoo inbox, and all of a sudden something in sophie kinsella's recent enewsletter (dated 27 feb) caught my eye...
".... Isla Fisher, Hugh Dancy and Krysten Ritter are going to be SO fabulous as Becky, Luke and Suze.... "
hugh dancy = luke brandon!!
when i first found out about isla fisher, i thought, "sigh, they could have picked someone more like rebecca bloomwood... isla fisher just seems to lack something i couldn't pinpoint, not "becky" enough. oh well..."
and now that they've gotten hugh dancy (claire dane's beau) as luke-charming-brandon, i'm not quite sure i'm catching his vibe as luke either.
don't get me wrong, i think hugh dancy is good-looking with very nice eyes, and looked "prince-charming" enough in "ella enchanted" and "king arthur", but i just can't quite picture him as luke brandon. hugh dancy looks a little too thin (sometimes even elfy) to be luke. i had imagined luke to be someone of a bigger build, slightly hunkier... someone more mature and corporate-looking... the 101% sweetheart that luke brandon should be (and with a better hairdo :P).
honestly, i'm a little disappoionted. hugh dancy didn't blow me away or come across as the perfect luke brandon. but i still hope the movie will prove me wrong :)
there are already some spoiler pictures from the movie posted on hugh dancy's fan-site (gotta register to view) - check them out here.
ps: if you didn't quite follow what i was rattling about - it's the hugely popular chick-lit "shopaholic" novel series by british author sophie kinsella. the first movie "confessions of a shopaholic" will be released end-2008/early-2009.

EEEEeeeeeeee... like you, i think he's so not Luke Brandon!
yea.. quite disappointing. even the entire movie-plot deviates quite a bit from the original storyline :( doesn't sound nice anymore...
and becky's wardrobe looks like a fashion-disaster in some of the on set pictures... aiyo.
You just spoke out my thoughts, I'm so disapointed. He's not that kind of Luke Brandon I've thought of, then I read the story.
- I'm thinking of Ryan Reynolds, or someone like that.
And I personally think they could have picked a better one to play Becky than Isla Fisher, but she's good too
and I agree with Celest, her closet is a fashiondisaster in some of the pics. I've seen!
Anyway, can't wait to see the movie
absolutel agree! i can't believe the picked him. Luke Brandon should be more built, and look older. This guy I think could play a better Tarquin lol. And Luke should be alot older, and look more authoritive.
The worst is Becky's parents. OMG. jane cusack, and john goodman?!?! Jane is too young for the mother role, and not motherly enough. John GOodman is fatherly, but i pictured Graham to be older, shorter, and tinier.
I agree!!he's just not soo luke dat ive been imagine..better play tarkie part..huhu..cnt wait 2 watch d movie!!
I also agree with you, Luke Brandon in my head is a well built, well dressed, dark and very hansome, and how come they picked a red head to be becky when in shopaholic and baby her enemy was the red headed bitch Venetia Carter! Anyway cant wait for the film, and just hope it doesnt dissapoint us.
yeah i thought no way when i first saw this but having seen the film Hugh Dancy will do fiiiinnnee, he is wonderful <3 in my head though i have to agree Luke is much more built & clean cut
This is way overdue but I just saw the movie a few hours ago at the cinema. I totally agree that he's not the right Luke Brandon. I imagined Luke Brandon the way you did too i.e. bigger, hunkier etc.
Yeah, I fully agree with all of you. I imagined Luke to be at least more matured and hunkier. HD should play the role of Tarkie!
I totally agree with most on here. HD was not the one for this movie. I think more like Michael Vartan or someone like him. I am so totally in love with this series. I just saw the movie a couple of days ago and cannot stop obsessing over the books.
I couldnt disagree more. He's the only saving grace to that movie. He's the perfect Luke Brandon. And the movie has butchered the books
hi Box: i have to admit, i eventually came to accept Hugh Dancy as Luke Brandon after watching the movie, but while he kinda grew on me in an unexpected manner, i think there are still better fits for his role.
i agree with you that the books were way better than the movie. i didn't like the movie-version of Becky that much either.
This blog makes me laugh because I'm in the middle of reading book 3 of the 6 book series and I have yet to watch the movie, but I looked up the movie on imdb and was so incredibly disappointed by hugh dancy playing Luke Brandon. I had this vision of a tall, built guy with dark hair and eyes. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this.
this is totally irellevent now, but i just read the book again the other day. Nope this is not luke brandon, the guy i picture as Luke, is someone like Daniel Meade from ugly betty. To me he would have been perfect but i totally love Isla Fisher in this and think she was a great choise.
haha, thanks for leaving your comments. i guess it is still relevant, since anyone can pick up any shopaholic book anytime (which i think is a chick lit. classic), and still form our very own impression of how the 'real' Luke Brandon should be. i don't think there's really a specific time limit to that :)
i still think there are other actors who would fit Luke's role better (though he really grew on me after watching the movie), perhaps in a sequel, they might re-consider?
